Alyssa Wallace has been named Beauty Blogger 2014 in the Allure competition presented by Revlon.
Her YouTube videos garner millions of views – and she’s thousands of followers on Twitter.
After reaching the finals with 10 other beauty bloggers and vloggers (video bloggers), Alyssa Wallace came through the challenges victorous. Allure says of her victory: “Her YouTube channel may be a curly girl’s dream, with its detailed, step-by-step styling videos, but 21-year-old Alyssa Wallace insists that hair is the thing she’s laziest about.
Quoting Wallace they say: “I can do it once and be good for a couple days. Everybody thinks I’m this hair guru, but sometimes I just throw it up in a bun,” she says. Her “guru” status began last June, when Wallace posted a picture of her perfectly defined curls on Instagram. “People were like, ‘We need to know how you did that!’ It’s easier to make a video, so I filmed myself creating the hairstyle. A couple months later, I realized I had reached a million views,” she says. Wallace, based in Fort Wayne, Indiana, left her job at a retirement community to vlog full-time, demonstrating styling techniques like twist outs and Bantu knot outs. “I taught myself. I didn’t know the first thing about hair a year or two ago,” she says. “I just want to show everyone that they can learn and do their own makeup or hair, too.”
