Angelo Vallillo, Creative Director at Zullo & Holland, Nottingham, appeared at 6 London workshops at the Wella Academy across 2 days to present looks from the new Transcendence Collection.
Twice-winner of Eastern Hairdresser of the Year, Angelo is the first British hairdresser to be selected as a member of the Sebastian Professional International Artistic Team and presented 2 of the 4 haircuts demonstrated to delegates who got an up close look at the image recreations.
Says Angelo, “This collection is all about augmentation, influenced by films like Elysium, Interstellar, I, Robot, and by prediction agencies such as futurenet. With the world’s focus on creating super human beings, Sebastian is looking at the augmentation of hair and how we can add and take away pieces to blur the lines between creativity and imagination. “Using a canvas of 3 cuts: bob, short, undercut, we then use pieces to plug in, cut into shape and change the look. We can really blur line between creativity and imagination, these 3 cuts can augment to many different shapes so anything is possible. These can be at the extreme edge of artistic, but as artists we need to be able to translate these into the salon for commercial use as well, for example, I’m using the Great Lengths extension pieces to make fringes in salon which are toned to match the clients’ hair, applied using sticky double sided tape and cut into shape, and the client can re-use them afterwards. We’re charging £20-£30 for this as an add-on service to give people fringes or weekend hair that’s then easy for them to do themselves. Once we’ve made them, they can put them in and out as desired.”
The intimate workshops saw a demo from Angelo and 2 other educators in the first hour, then delegates had the opportunity to be mentored in creating a look on their model in the second hour, after which their model was photographed in the final section of the session.
