Open Chair Night

“It’s your chair, take 10 minutes, show us your talent” was the invitation on HairClubLive’s poster for an Open Chair Night in London earlier this month.

Wow! The challenge proved irresistible and the firstever #HCLOpenChair was a runaway, hairdressing success.

Stylists from around the country

More than 160 hair industry professionals – hairdressers, manufacturers and journalists – rocked up to the Star of Kings pub in Kings Cross for a completely fresh concept event. As the name intends, Open Chair Night allows both established and up-and-coming stylists the chance to grab a seat in the chair and let their actions speak louder than words. There’s no brief, no restrictions, just the limit of 10 minutes to show off whatever you want. Oh yes, and to socialize in an informal, stripped back and cool venue.
A traffic light system starting from green, turning amber, then red counts down the time and adds to the excitement. The spectators loved the energy!
For this premier night, 21 talented hairdressers from apprentices to a fair few well-known stylists had bagged themselves a slot on stage, including; Anne Veck, Jason Hall, Blue Tit’s Sophie Harris, Natasha Pearson and Luke Benson from Darren Ambrose. Among them, some had travelled from Scotland, Wales and the south coast to grab their moment in the spotlight.

Dom Lehane

Dom Lehane

Hosting the evening was Hair Club Live founder, Dom Lehane. Dom was joined on stage throughout the evening by four of Hair Club Live’s Top Guns; Jack Howard, Tim Hartley, Desmond Murray and Adam Reed.

Jack Howard commented about the evening, “AMAZING – game changer for the hairdressing industry, thank you.”

As the stylists raced through the ten minutes with focus and speed, the HairClubLive DJ created a super-cool underground vibe to accompany the amazing work on stage. When the red light beamed, the stylists were alloweda minute to briefly round up their look and how they achieved it.

Thanks to the support of ghd, who gave a helping hand by setting up a funky prep area, complete with ghd stylers and products. And to UNITE Haircare who gifted the stylist winning the biggest applause of the night a hamper of UNITE haircare goodies. The apprentices from Forde in Brighton – the youngest on stage – drew the loudest cheers and went home beaming.

Watch out for details of the ww UK 2015 tour, which will be announced in January…. Coming to a venue near you!
