Jonathan Andrew, celebrity stylist and Artistic Director at Jamie Stevens, has been announced as the winner of not just one but two awards in the Hair Magazine Awards 2016.
Jonathan scooped the top prize for ‘Best Men’s Hairdresser’ whilst his image (main, top right) blew away the competition to secure the title of ‘I Want That Hair (Men)’. The image forms part of Jonathan’s men’s collection, which was shortlisted for the British Hairdressing Awards Men’s Hairdresser of the Year category.
Clients of Jonathan’s include James Arthur, Union J, Oliver Proudlock and the cast of Made In Chelsea, The Loveable Rogues and Calum Best.
Of his double win, Jonathan said “I was absolutely overwhelmed to find out I had won two awards in the Hair Magazine Awards. I still can’t believe it! I have to say a massive thank you to Jamie Stevens and the team for all the support. This style incorporates a mixture of skills and finishing, and is right on trend because it’s smart and groomed but with a hint of edgy cool.”
Jonathan’s top advice for men’s hair this season…
Texture is this season’s big trend and expect to see more and more guys pushing the boundaries here. Try scrunch drying the hair with Matrix Mess Maker to nail the beachy texture vibe.
Long hair is getting shorter! This for me has been happening first hand in the salon; guys who’ve been growing their hair some time seem to be going shorter. It’s not an aggressive change but I’m seeing more guys go for a more mid-length groomed look. This allows variation, as it can still be dressed up or down.
I think more men need to get on board with hairspray as only a few seem to adopt this staple into their hair routine. More gents are trying to take more care with their hair and hairspray is an essential for keeping everything in place. Try Matrix Style Fixer for great hold without a greasy finish.
Follow these simple tips to completely change styling at home. When using a wax or clay, really make sure you rub the product into the hands thoroughly. Then, apply to hair starting from the back and work forward rather than the opposite way. Imagine you’re putting the product on the scalp rather than the hair and it will naturally come off your hands, evenly distributed and much easier to style.
If you don’t have the time to blow dry the hair, after washing comb through the hair into the rough position you would blow dry your hair into and cover in hairspray. Let the hair dry naturally, once dry it was have a wet look finish with a slight crunchy feel. Lightly brush out the hair and it will have set in place. Style as normal for a stress free-finish with no heated styling.
