Visionary Award at The Alternative Hair Show

The Alternative Hair Show 2014 takes place on Sunday 12th October, at 8pm at The Royal Albert Hall, London, celebrating the artistry and pure creativity of hairdressing teams from across the globe, whilst raising much-needed funding for “Fighting Leukaemia”; a charity set up by Tony and Maggie Rizzo to support Leukaemia sufferers, primarily children and their families.

This is the 32nd London Alternative Hair Show and marks an exciting 12 months during which Alternative Hair has also had a highly successful show in Rome, Italy; has welcomed John Frieda as Global Patron and has joined with Hair Raising to organize a charity fun-run “Race For The Kids” which took place on the 8th June 2014 in Battersea Park, Central London.

The Alternative Hair Show has established itself as an enduring charity event, much loved by the 5,000 audience who annually attend the show during the weekend of Salon International. Importantly, the wonderful hair teams who appear in the show self-fund their individual presentations. Without their commitment, the evening could not take place. Annually, Alternative Hair is supported by the global trade media, both before and after the event.

An intrinsic part of the evening is the Visionary Award.  Inspired by an idea of Anthony Mascolo’s the Award seeks and recognizes new talent. It has grown over the last few years into an international photographic competition. The finalists are each invited to present a model during a separate part of the show. Judged by top hairdressers and journalists from across the globe, the winner and 2 runners-up are announced during the evening.

Alternative Hair is so much more than a charity event, so much more than a hair show. It is about an event that is close to the heart of many people within the hairdressing profession, inspiring, enthralling and entertaining; a ‘not to be missed event’ on the hairdressing calendar.

“I am truly delighted with the support the hair teams give Alternative Hair each year. We have 20 very exciting teams including the Toni&Guy Artistic Team led by Sacha Mascolo. It will be wonderful to have my niece on stage with her team for the first time since I have been Global President,” says Anthony Mascolo. “It’s going to be a brilliant night.”

Tony Rizzo, Founder of Alternative Hair, said ‘The International Visionary Awards received record submissions this year. The shortlist was truly impressive and competition to select the finalists was fierce. We have some amazing hairdressers in the final. It will be exciting to see who wins the International Visionary Awards, securing their opportunity to present at the 2015 Alternative Hair Show’.

Anthony Mascolo, President of Alternative Hair, said “Adding the commercial cut and colour section to the Visionary Awards has taken the competition to a new level. We have seen some beautiful colours and great techniques. In the avant-garde section Pat and I were thrilled to see the detailed work and skill of many of the entries. Seeing the live final will be very exciting.”
