Phil Hunt – Britain’s Best Amateur Hairdresser and Winner of BBC Two’s HAIR 2015 Goes Professional


Phil Hunt is delighted to announce he will be officially joining the professional hair styling team at Oolong Hair (, Shad Thames, 1 August 2016 just one year after being awarded the title ‘Britain’s Best Amateur Hair Stylist 2015, when he won BBC Two’s HAIR.

Penny Campbell, Director at Oolong Hair said, “We are thrilled Phil is joining our Oolong family, and we’re certain his technical skills and creative flare will rapidly build a strong, loyal clientele here at Oolong Hair”.

Originally from the East Riding of Yorkshire, Phil entered BBC Two’s HAIR competition whilst training for his VTCT VRQ Level 2 and 3 in Hairdressing at Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College.

Phil Hunt says “After winning last year, I am delighted to be finally working full time in the hair industry. Working at Oolong Hair will enable me to build and service an exciting and diverse mix of clients within editorial, catwalk, television, film and theatre”.

Phil Hunt’s website, showcases many of his latest hair design projects and his passion for avant-garde styling.

Phil Hunt says “Working at Oolong Hair will enable me to keep up to date with the most popular fashion hairstyles and colours, and will ensure I continue to create my own new and edgy hair designs.”

Although now living in Greenwich, London, Phil Hunt is keen to give back to East Yorkshire and has recently become the ‘Patron of Hair’ for LEAPS; a registered charity, which, through regular theatrical performances by young upcoming and professional artists, raises money for charities and causes throughout Hull and the East Riding of Yorkshire.

The Ealing, Hammersmith and West London College has been consummate to Phil’s vocational journey, and although the time has come for him to move forward as a professional hair stylist, He strongly supports the #MakeItHappen campaign for the college, and intends to continue to build and develop a professional relationship with the team at EHWLC over the next few years.
